"I always wanted to learn..."

What is U3A?

U3A is the University of the Third Age. Our first age is childhood; our second our lifetime career. Our third age is what many call retirement. You only need to be over 55 years of age and no longer working full time to qualify. In Sydney U3A we have over 5,500 members who pursue their interest in lifelong learning. There are no exams and the pace is relaxed.  For more information and answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) click here...

Those Were The Days

This new section is proving popular.  We have a number of stories already from members and new ones are being added almost daily.

Check it out.  Click on the menu item  called Those Were The Days (it's just up there on the left).

Why not join in?  Delve into that old memory bank and share your reminiscences with the rest of us.  You can email your contributions to webmaster(at)sydneyu3a.org

Some Notes on Courses

All members should now have the new Course List for Semester 2.  But please be sure to check the section 'Our Courses' on this web site for late changes and/or errors and omissions.

Also, within the 'Our Courses' section we have added a new page.  It's called 'Featured Courses' and gives you an insight into some of our courses from the inside perspective.

Other Places and Links

We have another new page.  There are many U3As in Australia and around the World.  In addition a great number of other groups provide services of some kind to U3A members.  So, the intention of this new page is to provide information on events and activities of these various groups as well as links to them.  To go there just click on Other Places/Links in the menu (above left).

If you know of something we should add please email webmaster(at)sydneyu3a.org.  And, as always, your comments and feedback are always welcome.

Old Wives Tales: True or False?

In the section 'Those Were The Days,' Margaret Dowell has written a fascinating recollection of various remedies her mother relied on when Margaret was a small girl in NE England.

It made us think.

What was popular in your family?  We have great diversity in Sydney U3A and there's bound to be a few more home potions to amaze and amuse the rest of us.

Write your own story and send it to webmaster(at)sydneyu3a.org or go to the Comments page in Those Were The Days and let us know about the cures your Mum swore by.

Preparing for A Wilde Weekend

Following the great success of the Jane Austen and Dickens weekends, our Wilde weekend next March has been booked out already (see page 4 of the new Course List). But before then, we have a lot of organizing to do.  One thing we really need is an experienced piano accompanist.  Could that be you?  If it is, or if you can suggest someone, please contact David Liell on 9743 2295.

Travellers' Tales

Sydney U3A members are a curious bunch.  And we love to go and see things for ourselves.  At any point in time there are dozens of us in some other corner of the World.  And, if you think you know some exotic places, just wait until you see where some of your fellow members have been.

But it's all fascinating and we want to read about it.  So, if you have a tale of a trip to Tea Tree Gully, Tamworth or Timbuktu please send it (with pictures if possible) to webmaster(at)sydneyu3a.org

We're collating stories now so keep an eye on this new section.  Click here to go there now.
