The Gallipoli Mosque at Auburn, the religious centre of the Australian Turkish Muslim community, can accommodate more than 1600 worshippers. It was constructed between 1986 and 1999, using finishes, materials and fixtures imported from Türkiye. The works were primarily funded by the local Muslim community, which contributed some $6 million over 13 years. The design of the Ottoman-style mosque is inspired by the Marmara University Mosque in Istanbul. The main dome is 22.6m high and has an internal circumference of 16.6m, with the minarets standing 34m high. In the centre hangs a beautiful crystal chandelier. Dress code: modest attire required for entry to the Mosque. Please wear long, loose clothing. Cost: $5, payable on the day. Optional lunch afterwards at local Lebanese restaurant.
