About Us

Retired or semi-retired and enjoy learning and meeting like-minded people? Interested in attending stimulating and diverse courses, presentations and activities across the arts, sciences, history, languages, music, computing, fitness and more? Sydney u3a, across its seven metropolitan regions, is for you! There are no prerequisites, no exams and no qualifications awarded. Become a member of the Sydney u3a family and participate in our activities.

Our Mission

Sydney u3a aims to foster lifelong learning, creativity, exercise, and community interaction for retired and semi-retired people

  • Sydney u3a is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit organisation. Resources are drawn from the members for the members. Members share their knowledge, learn from others, socialise and have a passion for education.
  • We are recognised and respected as a post-retirement educational community.
  • Our aim is to contribute to the fostering and melding of lifelong learning, creativity, exercise and socialisation, in order to enhance well-being.
  • Sydney u3a offers a wide range of courses, presentations and social activities, both face-to-face and online, covering a variety of topics, reflecting the interests of its members.
  • Members can attend any course, talk, activity or event in any region.
  • If you are no longer working full-time, you are eligible.
  • There is no minimum or maximum age or requirement for prior qualifications.
  • Sydney u3a delivers courses at venues across the Greater Sydney metropolitan area.
  • We are divided into seven regions, based on each Council's area, but you can attend any course, activity, presentation or event in any region.

  • Our Head Office is at Suite 502 Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts   280 Pitt Street  Sydney 2000.
  • Members can attend any course in any of the seven regions across Sydney.
  • Volunteers lead and administer the courses and talks.
  • A wide range of topics is covered – from learning foreign languages to table tennis to history to book/movie clubs to philosophy to science-related issues. There’s something for everyone!
  • Courses are held in a variety of local venues and via Zoom.
  • Events, visits to interesting locations, tours and social activities are also offered.
  • Full details of activities are listed on individual regional pages within the Course Book each Semester.


Not every course needs to be booked – if you do have to book, this is how to do it:

  • Search for the course, presentation, activity or event, using the menus and search facilities.
  • Click on the course, presentation, activity or event for further details about dates and times, plus a brief description.
  • For more information, click on the Contact button or telephone the Course Leader named in the description.
  • You may merely wish to click on the booking/ signup button.

Note: you will need to log in or register as a member to book.

  • Please wear your membership badge when attending face-to-face meetings.
  • On arrival, register your attendance and provide contact details if not already done so.
  • Some courses include a break for morning or afternoon tea. A gold coin donation may be requested to help cover costs.
  • You may be asked to assist with setting up and clearing away tables and chairs needed for the course/talk.
